The MUSLIM Institute, National Language Promotion Department, and Yunus Emre Institute co-hosted a two-day conference in Islamabad titled "Mevlana Rumi and Hadrat Sultan Bahoo: Preachers of Human Friendship, Peace, Love, and Harmony". The event celebrated the enduring legacies of these two great Sufi luminaries and their ongoing relevance in modern society.
Across multiple academic sessions, scholars explored their teachings from metaphysical, literary, global, and social perspectives. A core theme was their shared focus on inner contentment and spiritual greatness over physical appearance, advocating for universal love, tolerance, and respect regardless of sectarian or religious identities. The conference highlighted how both Sufis viewed passionate love ('Ishq') as a transformative power necessary for spiritual enlightenment and overcoming the ego.
Discussions also contrasted scientific empirical evidence with Sufi spiritual intuition, noting that divine power transcends physical space and time. Furthermore, the sessions underscored how Rumi’s universal advice and Bahoo’s profound Punjabi poetry continue to foster social values, ethical conduct, and harmony globally. The first day concluded with a Sufiana Musha'irah, a poetry session celebrating their profound literary contributions.
